Poker Lexicon - Poker Terms Beginning With 'T'
Tab - To go on, be on, or get credit.
Table - The surface on which poker is played.
Table cards - Cards that are turned up on the table for use in everyone’s hand.
Table charge - A fee paid for playing at a table.
Tap - To wager all of one’s money in a single bet (in no-limit games).
Tapped out - Out of money.
Table stakes - A player may bet no more money than he or she had on the table at the beginning of that hand and conesquently can not go back to their pocket for more money once a hand is dealt. In between hands however, a player is free to rebuy or addon so long as their entire stack after the rebuy or addon does not exceed the maximum buy-in.
Tell - An action that gives clues about the cards someone is holding.
Texas Hold'em - This is also the name for Hold'em, the most popular form of poker.
Three of a Kind - Three cards of the same number or face value ('trips').
Three flush - When a player has three cards of the same suit.
Three bet, Three betting - To be the first player to put in a third unit of betting. For example, if Jonny opens for $10, and Jenny raises to make the bet $20, if Teodor also raises to make the bet $30, this is to "three bet".
Three pair - In a seven card game, such as seven-card stud or Texas hold 'em, it is possible for a player to have 3 pairs, although a player can only play two of them as part of a standard 5-card poker hand. This situation may jokingly be referred to as a player having a hand of three pair. Note that in Omaha hold 'em, it is possible to "have" 4 pair in the same manner.
Third Street - In 7 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud 8 or Better, this is the first betting round on the first three cards.
Thirty Miles - Three tens.
Third man walking - A player who gets up from his seat in a cash game, after two other players are already away from the table, is referred to as the "third man walking". In a casino with a "third man walking rule", this player may be required to return to his seat within 10 minutes, or one rotation of the deal around the table, or else his seat in the game will be forfeited if there is a waiting list for the game.
Third Pair - In comuinty card games, pairing the third highest card on the board.
Throwing A Party - When several loose or amateur players are making significant monetary contributions to the pot.
Ticket - A card.
Tied on - When your hand is good enough to play to the end.
Tight - Either a player who doesn't play many pots, or a game that doesn't have much action.
Tilt, On - Behavior as a result of losing, usually negative.
Time - (a) A request by a player to suspend play while he decides what he's going to do. Simply, "Time, please!" If a player doesn't request time and there is a substantial amount of action behind him, the dealer may rule that the player has folded. (b) An amount of money collected either on the button or every half hour by the cardroom. This is another way for the house to make its money
TOC - Tournament of Champions.
To go - A term used to describe the amount that a player is required to call in order to stay in the hand, "Hellen was deciding whether to call now it was $50 to go."
Toke - In a brick and mortar casino, a toke is a "tip" given to the dealer by the winner of the pot. Tokes often represent a large percentage of a dealer's income.
Top kicker - In community card poker games, top kicker is the best possible kicker to some given hand. Usually it would be an Ace, but with an Ace on the board it would be a King or lower. Having "top pair, top kicker" is frequently enough to win a Texas hold 'em hand.
Top Pair - In flop games, when the player pairs one of his down cards with the highest card on board.
Top Two Pair - Having both your pocket cards match the highest two cards on the board.
Top and Bottom - Two pair, with your two hole cards pairing the highest and lowest cards on the board.
Tournament - Competition among players, sometimes with one buy-in, in which case it is sometimes called a freeze-out tournament, and then played down till either a preset number of players remain, at which point all win the chips they have at that time, or (more commonly, particularly online) till one is left, at which point prizes are awarded that are percentages of the total bought in (prize pool), with the most for the first-place winner, next for second, and so on, sometimes with a guaranteed amount for first place, or a guaranteed total for the entire prize pool; and sometimes with multiple buy-ins, in which case it is usually called a rebuy tournament, and often with a similar same prize structure. In such a tournament, first place might be worth 40 or 50% of the prize pool (depending on number of participants), second place 20 or 25%, third 15%, and so on, down to the last qualifying place, which might pay just the cost of the buy-in. The larger the tournament, the more places paid, from as few as one place in a one-table satellite (or online sit-and-go), to three in a small tournament, eight in a medium-sized tournament, or many more for very large tournaments. Some large online tournaments have paid 100 places and more. The final event of the 2003 World Series of Poker, with a record 839 entrants, paid 63 places.
Trapper - A player who underbets a strong hand to create a larger pot.
Treys - A pair of threes.
Trick - A lousy player. A donkey.
Trips - Three of a kind.
Tuna - Another term for a fish.
Turn - In flop games, this is the fourth card dealt. It is the third round of betting.
Two Pair - A hand consisting of two different pairs.
Two flush - A hand consisting of two suited cards.
Two-way hand - A hand that has the chance of winning both high and low halves.
