Poker Lexicon  - Poker Terms Beginning With 'U'

 

Underpair  - A pocket pair of lower value than the lowest card on the board.


Under the Gun  - Being the first person to act, being in the earliest position.

 

Under-Raise - To raise less than the previous bet if a player is going all-in. This does not reopen the betting to those who have already acted. A useful way of thinking of an under-raise is to think of it as a call.

 

Uncalled bet - The situation in any round of betting in which one player bet or raised and no one with chips equaled that bet or raise. When this happens, the software awards the pot to the player who made that bet. (If a bet is uncalled because a player is all in, any remaining cards are dealt and there is a showdown.) Compare with called hand.

 

Uncle Doc - Five-card stud with a single spit or card table.

 

Unglued - On tilt.

 

Undercut - The final down card being the lowest hole card in low-hole stud.
A shuffling technique used to stack the deck; cheater’s tactic.

 

Underdog
A hand that is not mathematically likely to win the pot.

 

Underplay - To make a small bet in the hope of drawing other players into the pot.

 

Union Oil - Hold'em starting hand nickname: 7-6. Comes from the symbol of the oil company.

 

Unlimited poker - Poker in which no limit is placed on bets or raises.

 

Unlimited re-buy tournament - A poker tournament structure allowing participants to re-buy as much as they like.

 

Up - The higher of two pair.

 

Up Card  - A card that is dealt face-up.

 

Up the creek - A game in which split-whiskered kings are wild.

 

Uphill - To chase or attempt to outdraw a better hand.

 

Up the ante - Increase the stake. Also commonly used outside the context of poker.

 

Upper limit -  Higher Limit.
