Poker Words Beginning With N

  • Nail - To catch a card that enables you to win the pot.
  • Nailing - A cheater’s technique to mark cards that are no longer in play.
  • Narrow The Field - To bet or raise in order to scare off other players whose hands are currently worse than yours, but have the potential to improve.
  • Natural - A hand without wild cards.
  • New York Stud - Five card stud in which a four flush beats a pair.
  • Nickel - Five dollars, usually represented by a red casino check.
  • Nickel-dime - A small-stake game.
  • Nit - Nits are typically unfriendly, extremely selfish, know-it-all rocks who add little or nothing of value to the texture of a good game. A nit doesn’t scratch your back when you scratch his. He does what’s in his best interest at all times, and without exception.
  • No Fold’em Hold’em - A term used to describe a loose Texas Hold ’Em game where players will generally call most bets rather than fold.
  • No Limit  - A game where players can bet as much as they like (as long as they have it in front of them) on any round of betting.
  • N/L - Short for No Limit.
  • No Pair - A Hand with 5 totally unrelated cards.
  • Nose picker- The Joker. 
  • Northern flight - Seven card stud with all hearts wild, unless a spade is in the hand.
  • Nucleus players - The dependable, regular players.
  • Number Two Man - A card cheat or dealer that is capable of dealing the second card from the deck at will.
  • Nursing - To play conservatively because one is losing and has little money left.
  • Nut - The winnings needed to survive as a professional poker player.
  • Nut flush -  The best possible flush for a given situation. For example, if the flop in hold'em is 8s 7h 6s 5d Ks and you have As Js, you have the nut flush.
  • Nut low - The best possible low for a given situation. For example, if the flop in Omaha high-low is 8s 7h 6s Kh Ks and you have As 2s 4d 5d, you have the nut low. You also have the nut flush, but that is a hand that might easily get beaten, given the pair on the board.
  • Nuts  - The best possible hand at any point of the game. A hand that cannot be beat.
